I just saw a funny commercial that I wanted to share with you.

Go to HeadandShoulders.com, then go towards the bottom left hand corner and click on “Commercials and Quotes”.

A pop up box will appear and click on “Commercials”.

As of now, the commercial I’m referring to is showing as the 3rd one from the left.

There’s a 30-something guy on his riding lawn mower and he’s looking around the yard and he’s not talking out loud, but you can hear his thoughts, which are:

“I think trans fats are made up. Have you ever seen a product that says it actually contains trans fats? No. There’s only foods with zero trans fats. I bet you could just make up something bad and say your product doesn’t have any. People would go crazy for it. I’m gonna start selling tires with zero death crystals. Those would be the tires to have.”

It’s pretty funny actually.

But sadly … trans fats are very real. And very dangerous.

Stay away from those nasty trans fats so you can keep your arteries nice and clean, okay?

Oh, and stay away from those “Death Crystals” too!

Okay, I have just got to get this off my chest.

I’ve been sitting and stewing about this for too long and today, I need to let it out.

A few weeks ago, it was all over the news - including the CBS news - that a group of doctors are now recommending that children as young as 8 years old should be tested for high cholesterol and start using cholesterol lowering drugs.

Eight years old?!

Look, these drugs are so risky and dangerous that it makes me furious they’re still on the market.

It’s bad enough that these drugs are making more and more people miserable every day with muscle pain and weakness. (Most patients don’t realize these symptoms are MAJOR warning signs of other serious side effects.)

But to try and force this … this “crap” … on our children is more than I can take.

I’m sure I’ll have more to say on this in the future. But please don’t let your kids fall victim to this nonsense.

As more and more stats relate high cholesterol levels with an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes, it’s a good idea for everyone to have their cholesterol checked at least once a year to see where they stand.

Wouldn’t it be grande if Derek Brownlee and other members of the Scottish Parliament took the lead and did this individually and then promoted this idea to their constituents.

How many heart attacks and strokes do you think we could prevent if our parliamentary leaders like Brownlee paved the way on this important health issue?

Brownlee and other leaders helping their constituents maintain proper cholesterol health - and reducing their risk of heart disease - sure would be an unusual way to say “thank you” and that they care, wouldn’t you agree?
